Welcoming
In 2014 a group of friends began to celebrate the Norse pagan holidays together in someone's backyard. In time these gatherings grew in size and scope and Heljalingar was born. Our purpose is to reconstruct and revive Norse Paganism (aka Heathenry) in the modern day.
We host regular feasts, study groups, workshops, adventures into nature, and more. We are a friendly, open, and accepting community and are happy to share our culture with new faces.
We are a family
Kindred means family and that is what we are. We've come together to learn, educate, and enjoy our spiritual journeys together. Not to tell people how to think but to share our thoughts as equals all walking a similar path. We are against bigotry and want everyone to feel welcome to come as they are.
Kith and kin are two terms you'll hear us use a lot. Kin are members who have made the oath to become part of the kindred family. Kith are friends, relatives, and members who have not taken the oath. Only kin are allowed to participate in our most sacred ceremonies (called Blóts) and to vote in our yearly Assembly (the Thing). However, kith are very much a part of Heljalingar and we couldn't exist without both. Therefore the input and needs of kith are taken just as seriously as those who have taken the Kinship Oath.
We take our creed seriously
The Creed at Hel's Gate is our guiding document and describes our fundamental values and goals. We wrote it together and continue to edit it as time goes on. We are horizontally organized and will never allow one kin to be considered 'higher' or 'more important' than any other. Working together towards our goal to build a heathen community center on which to conduct our activities is our mission. Maintaining and improving our community is our daily work. The people who make up the kindred matter more to us than anything else, including the gods themselves.
